The Mary Sophia Temple for World Peace

The renowned Swiss psychiatrist Carl G. Jung declared that, in order to truly change a condition of humankind, one must first change the collective consciousness of the people. When applied to the challenge of achieving world peace, this means that, unless we change not only the hearts and minds of people all over the world, but also our very consciousness itself, we will not be able to sustain an enduring world peace. To change the collective consciousness, we must change both the conscious and unconscious ways we relate to and understand war and peace.

At the Sophia Retreat and Conference Center, we teach attendees at classes, seminars, and retreats how to heal their emotional wounds and free themselves from anger, hatred, resentment, and fear. We also teach the principles of love and kindness, of clear communication, and of relating honestly; all of these virtues, if lacking in people, are the underpinnings and causes for war. It is essential that we, the inhabitants of earth, heal our negative emotions and acquire the higher virtues, if we wish to share this planet harmoniously. However, these changes alone will not change the collective consciousness. The very archetypes themselves – the ones held in our unconscious minds, the ones from which our irrational, deep-seated beliefs and fears, reactions and concepts, develop – need to change. The way we are choosing to work on changing these is through the sustained action of community prayer.

By joining together with people of all faiths in praying for peace, we intend on keeping a steady stream of a new consciousness, a new paradigm itself, moving up to the heavens and out to all people around the world. By having both a physical site and a virtual site on the internet in which people can gather in one mind (that of praying for peace), we will open the possibility for everyone to make a meaningful contribution toward creating peace on earth.

Over time, we expect to see the effect of all the prayers being that people everywhere begin to see the folly of war and fighting to resolve conflict and choose to work out their differences in non-violent ways. Only through such work in the conscious and unconscious minds and hearts of people can we possibly change our warring nature. Join us in making this dream a reality.
